Odds and ends, and possibly a new project

We have received nearly all the parts we need to start re-building our car for Nationals. We need a few fittings and a bit of light machining before we assemble the car. Unfortunately our machine shop access is decreased in the summer… However, we’ll find a way around it and get our car built.

We have been working on a bio-powered car for regionals next spring – our ideas are a bit more elaborate than a simple bio-fuel engine. It will is taking a multidisciplinary team to gather information for a prototype. We have been consulting with professors and graduate students and have fortunate enough to be given some supplies in the process. More details to come later.

Parts starting to roll in

We’ve started to see a few pieces of equipment roll in and are placing an order for parts later this week. With these parts we expect to be able to start building our car and improve characterization abilities. Almost time to get building!

July 2nd, update:

We’d like to acknowledge our newest sponsor AMS Sustainability! In June, AMS Sustainability agreed to provide us with funding in order to allow us to buy sensors and such to better understand our chemical reactions and upgrade our car. We have had a lab day working on our iodine clock solutions and hope to soon have a procedure that is repeatable and understood. Our designs phase has come to an end and we are entering the building phase. We hope to have a car built by the end of July. We will start ordering parts within the week. Hopefully not all of us will abandon ship for the currently perfect weather!!
